The UK fresh dog food price index
Prices verified 2 October 2026
What four UK fresh dog food brands charge per day, delivered, once the introductory offer ends: Bella & Duke, Butternut Box, Different Dog and Pure Pet Food. Every figure comes from each brand's own signup quote at five dog sizes, and we re-check them every week and log every change with its date. These brands don't publish a price list, so this covers the brands we can measure ourselves. It is not the whole UK market, and it doesn't claim to be.
A 14kg adult dog, per day
£2.57 to £5.29
Median £3.04 a day, or £92.39 over an average month, across the four brands. Lowest for this dog: Bella & Duke and Pure Pet Food, level to the penny. Highest: Different Dog.
Price per day at five dog sizes
Each figure is the ongoing price for a neutered adult dog on typical walks, delivered, with no introductory discount applied. These are the weights our weekly check re-prices against each brand's own quote, which is why the verification date above holds for every cell.
| Dog | Bella & Duke Raw | Butternut Box Gently cooked | Different Dog Gently cooked | Pure Pet Food Dehydrated | Median All four |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3kg adult | £1.07 | £1.97 | £1.64 | £1.28 | £1.46 |
| 7kg adult | £1.77 | £2.39 | £2.54 | £2.07 | £2.23 |
| 14kg adult | £2.57 | £3.50 | £5.29 | £2.57 | £3.04 |
| 30kg adult | £4.00 | £5.23 | £7.00 | £2.85 | £4.62 |
| 45kg adult | £5.99 | £6.01 | £7.67 | £3.99 | £6.00 |
With an even number of brands the median is the midpoint of the middle two, so it need not match any one brand's price. Every figure comes from the same sampled models the calculator uses, rounded to the penny.
Pricing up one brand in particular? what Bella & Duke costs, what Butternut Box costs, what Different Dog costs and what Pure Pet Food costs.
Outside the index: the kibble comparator
tails.com is also tracked, but it sells personalised kibble rather than fresh food. Counting it would put this page at odds with the site's own definition of fresh, so it sits here as context, priced the same way and left out of every figure above.
| Brand | 3kg adult | 7kg adult | 14kg adult | 30kg adult | 45kg adult |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| tails.com Personalised kibble | £0.52 | £0.90 | £1.25 | £1.95 | £2.41 |
What has moved
Since tracking began on 13 July 2026, 11 weeks of weekly checks have recorded two confirmed price movements, both at Pure Pet Food, and one carries a published correction questioning whether it was a price movement at all. Each movement is measured for a 14kg adult, the same dog as the headline figure.
- 10 August 2026 Pure Pet Food Price decreased by about 13 percent for a 14kg dog Corrected 13 August 2026: The reading above is accurate. The interpretation is not: this was very probably a portion change, not a price change. What a given dog cost per day did genuinely change, so a subscriber on this brand would have seen their bill move. What did not change, as far as we can now tell, is Pure's price list.
- 3 August 2026 Pure Pet Food Price increased by about 9 percent for a 14kg dog
Introductory offers appearing or being withdrawn are logged too. They change no ongoing price, so they are never counted as a movement here:
- 28 August 2026 Different Dog Introductory offer added, no change to the ongoing price Corrected 29 September 2026: The 20% covers the first two boxes, not only the first. Different Dog's checkout summary, read on 4 September, applies it to both. We cannot tell whether that was already so on 28 August, so it is not logged as a change to the offer. The ongoing price is unaffected, and our first-year figures have counted both discounted boxes since 4 September.
- 25 August 2026 Different Dog Introductory offer withdrawn, no change to the ongoing price
Every reading we hold for one brand, dated: Bella & Duke price history, Butternut Box price history, Different Dog price history, Pure Pet Food price history and tails.com price history.
How the index is measured
- Price per day, not per pack. A brand can change a pack size or a recommended portion without touching its price list, and a per-pack figure would record that as a price change. A per-day figure for the same dog does not.
- Delivered. Every figure includes delivery. Bella & Duke and Pure Pet Food include it in the price their signups quote; Butternut Box and Different Dog add it at checkout, so their figures are read from there.
- Ongoing, not introductory. Opening offers change far more often than prices do, and an index that moved with them would be measuring marketing. Offers are logged separately and left out of every figure.
- The same dog as the rest of the site. A neutered adult on typical walks, so any figure here can be checked against the calculator.
- Re-checked weekly, re-sampled monthly. Every week we re-price all five weights against each brand's own quote. Once a month we walk a fuller set of dog profiles and re-fit each brand's price curve. That was last done in August–October 2026.
Why there is no index number yet
Most price indices report a single level, set to 100 at a starting month. This one doesn't yet, on purpose. The log holds two confirmed price movements, both at Pure Pet Food, and one carries a published correction questioning whether it was a price movement at all. A level rebased on so few readings would dress them up as a trend. We will add one once two clean quarters of data are in hand, and until then the price per day above is the figure to quote.
Using these figures
You're welcome to quote anything on this page. Please cite it as the BowlPrice UK fresh dog food price index, with the verification date at the top, and link here if you can. The dated readings behind every figure are available on request from hello@bowlprice.co.uk, and our data and press page has a ready-made citation and what we can and can't tell you. The licence covers what you may republish.
