BowlPrice records what UK fresh dog food subscriptions actually cost, taken from each brand's own signup quote and dated. These brands don't publish price lists, so a figure only exists once someone works through the quote for a particular dog. We do that every week. Journalists, researchers and writers are welcome to use anything we publish.

The figure to cite

The UK fresh dog food price index is the page built for citing. It gives the price per day of four fresh brands at five dog sizes, the median across them, and every price change we have logged, all carrying the date they were last verified. A sentence you can use as it stands:

The figure changes when prices do, so please take it from the index on the day you write rather than from this page. A link to the page you took a figure from is ideal. Naming BowlPrice as the source is just as welcome.

What we track

• Five brands: Butternut Box, Bella & Duke, Different Dog, Pure Pet Food and tails.com. Bella & Duke, Butternut Box, Different Dog and Pure Pet Food are fresh food and make up the index; tails.com is priced the same way and shown beside it.
• The same reference dogs every week: neutered adults on typical walks at 3kg, 7kg, 14kg, 30kg and 45kg, priced at the ongoing rate with delivery included and introductory offers excluded.
• A dated change log since 13 July 2026: three confirmed price movements and two introductory offer changes so far, each with the date it was confirmed.
• A cost page for each brand: Butternut Box, Pure Pet Food, Bella & Duke, Different Dog and tails.com, with prices across dog sizes and the brands that work out cheaper for the same dog.

How the data is collected

We enter the same dog profiles into each brand's own signup process and record the price at the last step before payment. Every brand is re-checked weekly at the weights above and walked in full once a month. No brand supplies, sees or approves our figures before they are published. The full method is on the price index and our about page, and we can send the dated readings behind any figure if you want to check them yourself.

What we can't tell you

• Anything about nutrition or health. We price food; we don't assess it.
• Supermarket or pet shop prices. We only cover food sold by subscription through a signup quote.
• The whole UK market. Our figures cover the brands named above and no others, so please don't describe them as a market average.
• Sales, subscriber numbers or brands' plans. We only know what their quotes say.

Licence

Quote any figure on this site with credit to BowlPrice, and a link where you can. That covers news stories, blog posts, research, newsletters and AI answers, and you don't need to ask us first.

Republishing whole tables, the index in full, or the underlying readings as a dataset needs our permission, which we give readily: ask us. Two reasons, and neither is about keeping the figures quiet. Walking each brand's signup every week is the work behind them, and a copy of the table goes out of date the moment a brand reprices, while a link never does.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong, we correct it in public and date the correction, so the original reading and the fix can both be seen. The Pure Pet Food reading of 10 August 2026 is an example: it stays in the log with a correction dated 13 August 2026 explaining what it really was. If you think one of our figures is wrong, please tell us.
