How much does it cost to feed a dog in the UK?
Prices verified 2 Oct 2026 from each brand's own signup
For a 14kg adult dog, about the size of a Cocker Spaniel, the five dog food subscriptions we track cost from £38 a month (tails.com, personalised kibble) to £161 (Different Dog, gently cooked) once each intro offer ends. That is £457 to £1,930 a year, and the dearest costs about 4.2 times the cheapest for the same dog.
Size moves both ends. The smallest dog we price, at 3kg, costs from £16 a month (tails.com, personalised kibble) to £60 (Butternut Box, gently cooked); the largest, at 45kg, costs from £73 a month (tails.com, personalised kibble) to £233 (Different Dog, gently cooked). Below, every brand is priced at 3kg, 7kg, 14kg, 30kg and 45kg, ranked on price alone, whatever each one pays us.

Every column is a weight we re-check against each brand's own signup every week, most recently on 2 Oct 2026. A month is the daily price over an average month, delivery included.
A bigger dog costs more, but not in proportion
A 45kg dog weighs 15 times as much as a 3kg one, but on every brand we track it costs between 3.1 and 5.6 times as much a month to feed. A dog's daily energy need rises more slowly than its weight: by the standard formula the 45kg dog needs about 7.6 times the calories, not 15 times, and each brand portions its food to that need. The bill rises more slowly still, so on all five brands each calorie costs less for the bigger dog.
Which brand undercuts which changes with size too. What a Labrador costs to feed sets every brand against the others at one breed's size.
The first month costs less than these figures
All five brands open with a discount on the first box or month, so what you pay at the start is lower than the ongoing prices above. The prices on this page are what the food costs once that ends, which is the figure to budget on. Each brand's cost page gives its opening offer and what the first year comes to.
What this page doesn't price
These are the five dog food subscriptions we sample, from personalised kibble to raw and gently cooked, each priced from the quote its own signup gives for a dog. The page leaves out the other ways dogs are fed: dry food bought in supermarkets and pet shops, tins and pouches, raw food sold by the kilo, and food cooked at home. None of those quotes a price for a dog, so what they cost depends on the product and the portion, and we haven't sampled them. To set your current food beside the figures above, divide what a bag or a pack costs by the number of days it lasts your dog.
Age, activity and neutering change the price at some brands and not at others, so the calculator asks about all three and prices your own dog. Set on fresh food already? The fresh-only comparison leaves kibble out of the ranking. Feeding part fresh, part kibble? What mixing fresh dog food with kibble costs.
