Mixing fresh dog food with kibble: what it costs
Part-feeding plans read from each brand's own signup on 9 and 14 October 2026
Four of the five brands we track sell a plan for feeding their food alongside something else: Butternut Box's Half Butternut, Bella & Duke's Half Plan, Different Dog's Partial Diet and Pure Pet Food's Partly Pure. We read each one from the brand's own signup at 14kg, 30kg and 45kg, beside the full plan for the same dog on the same day.
At 30kg, the size of a Labrador, every part-feeding plan on sale costs more per gram than the same brand's full plan. Pure Pet Food's Partly Pure is 63% of the full price for 50% of the food, Different Dog's Partial Diet is 61% of the full price for 49% of the food and Bella & Duke's Half Plan is 57% of the full price for 50% of the food. Half Butternut isn't offered at 30kg.
It doesn't hold at every size. At 14kg, Bella & Duke's Half Plan is 49% of the full price for 50% of the food and Different Dog's Partial Diet is 50% of the full price for 54% of the food, so for that dog the smaller plans cost no more per gram than the full ones. Across every size we read, going part-fresh cuts the bill by between 19% and 51%.
Why half the food often costs more than half the price comes down to how each brand packs it. A smaller order can drop to a smaller box, and the smaller boxes cost more per kilo. Some plans round the portion to whole scoops or pack sizes, so “part” is not always half. The table below shows how much food each plan sends, as well as what it costs.
Every part-feeding plan, by dog size
Ongoing price per day once any intro offer ends, for a neutered adult on typical walks, with the share of the full plan's food and price beneath each.
| Plan | 14kg per day | 30kg per day | 45kg per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Butternut Box Half Butternut | £2.85 50% of the food, 81% of the price | Not offered | £4.39 50% of the food, 73% of the price |
| Bella & Duke Half Plan | £1.26 50% of the food, 49% of the price | £2.26 50% of the food, 57% of the price | £3.20 51% of the food, 53% of the price |
| Different Dog Partial Diet | £2.64 54% of the food, 50% of the price | £4.30 49% of the food, 61% of the price | £4.35 54% of the food, 57% of the price |
| Pure Pet Food Partly Pure | £1.96 60% of the food, 76% of the price | £1.79 50% of the food, 63% of the price | £2.44 55% of the food, 61% of the price |
Part-feeding plans read on 9 and 14 October 2026 and re-read every month. The full-plan prices they are measured against are re-checked every week, most recently verified on 2 October 2026. Bella & Duke's figures are its Most Popular box, and Pure's its default delivery every four weeks.
Add your own kibble
| Plan | Fresh part | Your kibble | Total a month | All fresh instead |

| Pure Pet Food Partly Pure | £54.49 50% of the food | enter above | £54.49 | £86.75 |
| Bella & Duke Half Plan | £68.87 50% of the food | enter above | £68.87 | £121.63 |

Your kibble covers whatever share of the bowl the plan doesn't, so a plan sending more of the food leaves less for your kibble to make up. We don't price kibble from shops: you know what yours costs, and we would only be guessing.
Brands without a part-feeding plan
tails.com (personalised kibble) doesn't sell a part-feeding plan. It sells kibble, so it can be the other half of the bowl rather than the fresh half: its full plan is £1.95 a day for a 30kg adult dog.
Before you mix
These are prices for adult dogs. A puppy's portion changes month by month, so for a puppy, price a full portion with the calculator instead. Whether to mix, and in what proportion, is a question for your vet; this page only prices it.
What it costs to feed a Labrador on each brand covers the full plans at 30kg, kibble included.
A page that helps you spend less with brands, some of which pay us a referral fee, cuts into our own income. We publish it because it is the question owners ask; here is how we make money.

Questions
Is Half Butternut half the price of a full Butternut Box?
No. For a 14kg adult dog, Half Butternut costs £2.85 a day against £3.50 for the full plan: 81% of the full price for 50% of the food. At 45kg it is 73% of the full price for 50% of the food. It isn't offered at 30kg. Prices read from Butternut Box's own signup and checkout on 14 October 2026, delivery included.
How much does it cost to mix fresh dog food with kibble?
For a 30kg adult dog, the part-feeding plans we track cost £1.79 a day for Pure Pet Food's Partly Pure, £2.26 a day for Bella & Duke's Half Plan and £4.30 a day for Different Dog's Partial Diet, plus your own kibble for the rest of the bowl. Across the three sizes we read, going part-fresh saves between 19% and 51% of the full plan's price, so half the food is not always half the bill.
Which part-feeding plan costs least?
It depends on the size of the dog. At 14kg it is Bella & Duke's Half Plan, at £1.26 a day; at 30kg it is Pure Pet Food's Partly Pure, at £1.79 a day; at 45kg it is Pure Pet Food's Partly Pure, at £2.44 a day. Each plan sends a different share of the full portion, so compare the share as well as the price.
